Quotes on Home
Now that this blog is on a new domain, it might be a good idea to share a couple of quotes which express why I don’t get homesick on the road easily:
Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest.
~ Henry Van Dyke
It’s not the idea of home which includes the place one grew up in, a semi-permanent location where one’s family lives and a sanctuary of unconditional love and acceptance. Sadly, the latter does not hold true for many people, and places can change rapidly.
However, when I meet people who welcome me and are interested in what I do, it helps me appreciate the moment. Even if they aren’t providing me a place to stay, I feel that same sense of belonging. To me, that is what separates a home from a base. Anyone can offer it, whether I’ve known them for twenty minutes or twenty years; it’s up to me to open myself up to them.
Thus, I’m privileged to have felt at home in many places around the world.
Home is where your friends are. Friends are for life, or creatures that you meet by chance. Some of them follow in your thoughts, and some walk by your side on the paths of life. Some seek or find security. Home is where you’re treated properly, and home is where you are loved.
